Art Foundations
Imagination, Observation & Color (Ages 7–9)
Our art classes for kids ages 7–9 give young creators the perfect moment to explore drawing before self‑doubt kicks in. Learning to draw early—and feeling confident about it—helps many children move past the “I can’t draw” stage that often shows up around age 10. Encouragement now matters. (See what can be learned.)
Imagination + Observation in Kids Art Class
Students practice both imaginative drawing and drawing from observation. Because imagination is strong at this age, even a few guiding art concepts spark big creative leaps. Guided observation lessons help kids slow down, notice shapes and details, and translate what they see onto paper. Creative thinking and visual accuracy grow together in our kids’ art classes.
Painting & Color Skills for Ages 7–9
Beyond drawing, children learn painting basics—proper brush handling, watercolor, tempera, and simple color‑mixing strategies. We also introduce playful media such as soft pastels and oil pastels to keep experimentation joyful. This variety helps young artists discover materials they love. Because instruction is guided yet fun, kids feel safe trying new ideas. Over time, they see improvement, gain pride in their artwork, and build lasting creative confidence in our kids art class environment.

Yes, you can enroll at any time, as long as there’s space available in the class. Additionally, we prorate your first month tuition based on your start date.

Also, all our teachers have a college degree in an art-related field.
SMALL CLASS SIZE
Specifically, we limit each class to a maximum of 8 students.
GALLERY DAY EVENT
Above all, every April, we celebrate our students’ progress with an art show we call “Gallery Day”. This event is open to all our enrolled students and their families & friends!
What if I miss a class?
We understand that sometimes things come up—unexpected events, travel, or illness—and you may need to miss a class. Not a problem! As long as you are enrolled, you can make up a missed classes by attending another class listed in our schedule at any of our locations.
However, keep in mind that there is absolutely no prorating or refund for missed classes. In addition, missed classes cannot be used as class credit for the next session, other classes, or camps.
Tuition & Fees
Your tuition provides four(4) consecutive weekly art classes. If you start in the middle of the month, we’ll simply prorate your tuition based on your registration date.
For kids and teen classes, a quarterly admin fee applies in September, December, and March. We will also prorate the admin fee in you enroll in the middle of the quarter.
Materials
We provide all materials for kids and teen classes; you only need to bring your student.
Students will explore a wide range of materials, including watercolor, tempera, pastels, charcoal, ink, acrylics, and more.
Rating
My daughter has been attending an art academy since 2021. She loves drawing and has learned many skills there. She especially loves Ms. Marcia, who has made learning enjoyable and helped her explore various forms of expression. Starting this term, my younger daughter has also joined.I’m really looking forward to seeing many wonderful artworks again this year.
Our girls had a great time in Ms LuzMarie’s class. They created very cool art work they are proud of. Would recommend it!

Art+Academy is a fantastic art school! I appreciate the ease & flexibility with the sign up process and to a make up a missed class. The owner is very responsive. My two kids (teen class & 9-12yo class) have been attending for several months and love their teachers. In fact, because of the class make up policy, my kids have met & learned from several teachers and all of them have been so kind, engaging and skilled! I’ve been impressed. All the teachers we’ve come across really care about the kids as people and as artists and my kids feel that respect and care. We’ve seen my kids’ skills (& art) improve with the constructive feedback from talented teachers.
We have had such a lovely experience here. Our daughter has jumped leaps and bounds with the amazing instruction she is getting!

Love coming here! The teachers are kind, patient, and talented artists. I’m continually surprised at the level of art work that can be achieved by myself and fellow students when guided by them. In addition each class feels very comfortable and welcoming. It’s a very relaxed positive environment that I look forward to joining weekly!
Our daughter loves her lessons!
Our daughter began attending Art + Academy last year as a kindergartner, and it quickly became her favorite extracurricular activity. We’ve explored various programs, but Art + Academy stood out for its ability to introduce her to new and creative drawing and painting techniques that she wouldn’t have tried on her own. We’re thrilled to start again next week after her summer break!
This is my 3rd year to be in Rosemary’s class of adults. I was so excited to come back to class today, after summer vacation. Missed my art buddies! Last year I was doing landscape watercolor, sketching animals in pencil, a lot of landscapes in pen and watercolor in one picture..mixed media. I’m coming back ready to learn and experience whatever class presents. Rosemarie is a fabulous laid back artsy teacher with lots of knowledge and plenty of experience teaching all ages. Another plus is learning in a class with people who are doing different types of art….it is encouraging me to try different types. Come try it!
Art Plus Academy provides not only outstanding instruction, but also a unique sense of community. I’ve been taking lessons from Art Plus for the past five years – since I was a 6th grader – and have grown immensely as an artist. Every instructor I’ve worked with has been knowledgeable and talented, giving me the guidance to build strong foundational skills, but also the distance and autonomy I needed to develop my own artistic style. Aside from the valuable instruction I’ve received, I’ve joined something of a family at Art Plus. I highly recommend this community for all ages. Monica has created a very special institution, and I recommend taking part.
The socially distanced summer camps were perfect. Our child learned so much and enjoyed the small group “camps.” At the end of the week, we got to see the amazing art our child created. I appreciate all of work the staff did to ensure a clean, safe and fun learning environment.
I started art lessons in December in the three hours every Tuesday adult class which Monica was teaching. I have grown and learned so much! I basically started at zero, with a love for trying craft projects and doing artistic things without any real knowledge of drawing. I feel like Monica always intuitively knows what to draw my attention to and where to push me. I would recommend this class to anyone! We even had some subs in May when Monica had to be out and each of the teachers were highly knowledgeable and great at teaching. If you’re thinking about taking a class, just do it! You won’t regret it 🙂
My daughter had a wonderful time at art camp with Ms. Erin. She told me she was nervous as we walked in on the first day, but Ms. Erin is a warm and highly-skilled art teacher who made her feel at ease right away. My daughter created beautiful pieces each day and came home raving about her experience. We cannot wait to enroll my daughter for the fall semester. We know she is in the best hands at Art + Academy!

Art+Academy is an excellent art school. The teachers are professional and provide art instruction beyond what is taught in a public or private school. The owner responds to inquiries and is accommodating. At age 6, my granddaughter showed signs of artistic ability, but was shy around people and lacked the self-confidence to follow through with extra-curricular activities. Now at age 8, after 2 years of Art+Academy’s quality art instruction, she has identified herself as a good artist, shows an increased self-esteem, makes eye contact, converses with her peers and teachers, and shows no resistance to attend her art classes. Her finished pieces include various techniques, perspective drawing, and mixed media. Art Academy yields an outcome that is well worth the investment of time and money.
I’ve been taking adult drawing/painting lessons for the past 3 years now. Every teacher I’ve met has been excellent, kind and very knowledgeable. The other students that I’ve met are also always very nice and wonderful people, and it’s great to be able to learn from other adults who are coming from different levels of experience. I just love this place
