Most places that call themselves art schools are really activity centers. They offer fun, variety, and a creative afternoon — and there is nothing wrong with that. But somewhere along the way, serious art instruction became rare. The kind where a teacher actually knows what they are doing. Where a student leaves with skills they did not have before. Where improvement is the point, not the backdrop.

Art Plus Academy was founded in Austin in 2009 on a different belief: that students deserve real instruction, taught by real artists, in an environment built around actual learning. That a 9-year-old who wants to draw like the artists they admire deserves more than a coloring project. That an adult returning to art after twenty years away deserves more than a social hour with paint. That the goal of an art education should be to make you better, and that making you better should feel encouraging, not intimidating.

Sixteen years later, that belief has not changed. Every instructor at Art Plus holds a college degree in an art-related field. Every class is capped at eight students. Every student — from the 9-year-old drawing their first portrait to the 65-year-old picking up a brush for the first time — leaves with something they can point to and say: I made that. I learned that. I got better.
That is what a real art school does.
